Your logistics processes can be effectively supported by various SAP modules and the level of automation can be increased. Of course, we will meticulously analyze in advance which modules are advantageous for your company and its processes.
Below you will find an overview of which modules support the processes in your warehouse.
In the area of inbound logistics, we look at the processes in which an SAP EWM-managed warehouse is stocked with inventory. This essentially includes the areas of internal delivery (for example, in the case of production integration with SAP EWM or stock transfers from other storage locations) and external delivery from suppliers or intercompany deliveries from other company locations. With SAP EWM, depending on the origin of the goods, product specifications and follow-up processes that follow goods receipt can be initiated manually or automatically.
Follow-up processes could include, for example, quality control, deconsolidation, cross-docking or direct transfer to the destination storage location.
Outbound logistics refers to the route of goods out of the warehouse, for example for delivery to a customer or a subcontractor. SAP EWM uses previously defined rules (e.g. FIFO - First in First Out or SLED - Shelf Life Expiration Date) to determine the inventory in the warehouse and creates warehouse orders for scanner-guided picking. As soon as the goods have been completely picked, follow-up activities such as packing and loading can be carried out and finally the goods issue can be posted.
In the case of cross-docking, as mentioned in inbound logistics, the goods would not be picked from the warehouse but directly from the goods receiving area, creating a combined process of inbound and outbound logistics.
Various processes are also carried out within the warehouse in day-to-day business. SAP EWM offers a range of useful functions to enable and optimize operations. Processes to ensure replenishment, reorganization, package creation (e.g. for additional logistical services) and inventory. Inventory in particular presents many companies with challenges.
There are different variants, such as annual inventory, cycle counting or low stock controls, to name just a few.
